芮妮齊薇格飾演的波特小姐是十九世紀末期的中產家庭世家的千金，出入都要有保母相隨，名為相伴，實則是保護兼緊釘，讓一般男人根本不能輕易搭訕，更別說越雷池一步了，但是伊旺．麥奎格飾演的出版商諾曼就是有辦法突破封鎖線，騙醉了保母之後，終於能夠進入波特小姐的房間，演出了一場浪漫求婚戲，早就看對眼的男女雙方在心領神會的情境下，芮妮就由著伊旺挽起根本不會跳舞的她開始婆娑起舞，同時聽著伊旺深情款款地唱出了「When You Taught Me How to Dance」這首歌曲。電影銀幕上，芮妮就這樣醉了，銀幕下的我，也跟著醉了。
