There was a story on the basis of an actual incident that occurred aboard a southern bus making its way to Miami. One of the passengers explained to the driver that he had been in jail for the past four years and was now going home. Not sure if he would be welcomed, he had written to his wife and suggested that she could let him know by trying a yellow ribbon around the only oak tree in the city square, if she still wanted him back. As the bus approached the big oak tree, everyone was nervous. To the man's tearful relief, it was. The whole tree was yellow with ribbons. This story is also the subject of a hugely popular song, "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree". Have you ever heard the song? @};-
