Hannah was a wife of Elkanah,
mocked by his other wife, Penninah,
for her barrenness, until the birth of Samuel,
whom she gave to the service of the temple at Shiloh.
After this Hannah, who made annual visits to her eldest son,
bore five more children. 1 Samuel 1.2-2.10,19-21.
