If you look around in Taiwan you will see many international brand names. When you go shopping in same parts of Taichung it feels, at times, like you are in a different country. Take me for example; I start my day when the alarm of my Taiwanese clock goes off at 5:30 a.m. By the time I leave my house for school, I have received a couple of calls on my cell phone made by Nokia, Finland’s mobile phone giant. I drive to school in my Honda, a car made in Japan. Once I get to work, I turn of my IBM computer, while drinking a cup of brewed coffee from Brazil and feasting on French bread sandwiches sometimes. Although there are many different points of view about our globalize economy, one thing is certain—globalization will continue to be a part of many aspects of life in Taiwan.
