野人花園是一個二人組合，樂隊由主唱Darren和吉他手兼鍵盤手Daniel組成。兩個來自澳大利亞布里斯班的年輕人在1993年時走到了一起，起初Daniel原來所在的樂隊正缺少一名主唱，於是他在附近的酒館裡張貼了一張招聘廣告，這張廣告吸引來了Darren，他和20多名應聘者一起參加了面試，他是最後一個出場，可能是太緊張了，他唱歌時聲音沙啞而且走了調。但是Daniel卻偏偏看上了他，覺得他就是自己要找的人。 Darren加入了Daniel的樂隊，開始演唱別人的歌曲，在相處中這兩個人越來越投機，尤其是在音樂上他們總能找到共同的感受，這促使他們創作了第一首他們自己的歌曲：“A Thousand Word”，這首歌曲的成功給他們帶來了強烈的鼓舞和激情，終於他們離開了原來的樂隊組成了自己的樂隊。
Darren很喜歡讀Anne Rice的小說，其中在一本名為《吸血鬼編年史》的小說中，作者把這個世界描述為一個野人的花園，於是Savage Garden作為他們樂隊的名字就這樣得來了。
